Brockman House Inc. Child Care Centre
A Giant Leap
Leaving your child or children in the care of others is a giant leap for parents. It may be that you are returning to work, or that your child needs socialisation, or that you need respite, but when you leave your children in childcare you need to be assured that your child is safe, their needs will be met, and that they will enjoy themselves and benefit from their experiences in childcare.
Honouring our responsibility
Brockman House Inc. Childcare Centre honours the responsibility that parents give us when they leave their children in our care. We are a not for profit Long Day Care Centre, Fully Licensed for 31 children (aged 0-6 years) and Accredited as High Quality. We do not profit from the care of children, rather the focus is on the care of the children and providing meaningful opportunities for children to develop through play. Parents and carers are pivotal in this process and are always invited to be a part of their children's experiences at Brockman House Inc. Child Care Centre.
Staff Professional Development
In order to provide the highest quality of care for our communities children, all of our staff are highly trained and partake in professional development opportunities throughout the year. All of our staff have National & Working With Children Checks and every single staff member has current Senior First Aid Certification. Staff are involved in their induction process, the develop of policies and procedures in order that they be relevant and the continuation of the Quality Assurance processes.
Nutritious Menus
Our kitchen is staffed by a Food Coordinator and holds a Gold Star rating from the City of Swan. Our nutritious menus are popular, having previously won the Start Right Eat Right Award and they are updated annually to ensure parents input and variety for children. Our kitchen is also Halal certified.
Programming
Our staff have time off the floor each week to prepare programming for the children. Programming for the children involves observations and evaluations by the staff, input from parents about their children, and then programming for their needs. Staff will then implement a programme based upon those needs. Parents input is pivotal in this process.
Assistance for you and your family
The Child Care staff are supported by a Financial Administrator, Chris, and an Administration Assistant, Amanda. The Director of Community Development Fiona, and Family Support Officer Joanne, are always available to assist with getting support your family might be needing, including parenting assistance, family or financial counseling, or referring you to an outside service.
Please don't hesitate to call our centre (9279-1588) and have a chat to Rosina, the Child Care Coordinator, for more information about Brockman House Inc. Child Care Centre.

The programme - focused on children
The programming process involves observations of individual children, both incidental and planned, and in group settings or one on one. These observations, together with parental input and requests, give staff knowledge of individual children's needs, likes, dislikes, areas of concern, and children's strengths. The programme is planned around these and is put in the children's rooms for parent's comment and input.
Catering for Kindergarten Aged Children
We currently have vacancies for our 4 year old Program. Call The Centre on 9279-1588 to enrol your child.
Brockman House Childcare has a 4 year old program designed specifically for kindergarten aged children to prepare them and help them find the skills they will need for pre primary the next year. Many parents find that keeping their 4 year olds in our Childcare is more convenient for them (no half days) and more enriching for their children.
The 4 year old program, also known as the "Kindy Program" helps give children an understanding of what they will be experiencing when they go to school/ pre-primary. Children are encouraged at this session to participate as individuals and as a member of the group, depending on what activity or experience has been programmed for.
Children, during this period, are developing their concentration spans, similar to what they will experience at school, by sitting at mat sessions, joining in in group discussions and following directions. This is the only structured part of the day where children are encouraged to participate.
The program is developed by programming for individual children, whilst giving the other children the opportunity to participate in these activities. The individual child who this is programmed for is observed and will have an evaluation written up for the parents/guardians to read and sent home. This hour also includes experiences planned if a parent has suggested an experience, either by writing it up on the parents evaluation chart or by filling out the parent involvement form.
Not all the experiences programmed arrive from observing an individual child, thay can also come from observing groups of children, and children are also encouraged to participate in the programming and give ideas on anything that they would like to do.
Children's specific development, for example: their Cognitive (mathematical thinking, cause and effect, science), Language/Literacy, Dramatic Play, Motor skills (cutting, weaving) and also their Social and Emotional skills (confidence, participating in group discussions, developing friendships with peers) are fostered throughout the year during the 4 year old program. The children develop all these skills whilst having fun in a child led environment, where all children's opinions and thoughts are valued and encouraged.
If you have any queries about this program, or would like to book your child in to our Childcare so that they can benefit from this program, please call our Centre on 9279-1588 and chat to the Childcare Coordinator Rosina.

Child Care Fees
Brockman House Child Care fees are designed to cover staff wages, which constitute at least 85% of expenses, and other overheads like insurance and utilities. Fees are kept to the bare minimum and are only raised when costs of living or staff wages have increased. If any profit is made from fees, it goes straight back into the Child Care Centre for improved resources.
Brockman House Child Care Centre is Fully Accredited which means that we can offer Child Care Benefit for families. It is up to each family to contact the Family Assistance Office on: 13 61 50 (or 13 12 02 for multilingual support) to register for Child Care Benefit. We will then be able to offer you reduced fees.
When you first book your child/ren into the Centre, you must pay a two week bond which consists of two weeks of your daily fees. When fees go up, or you add or remove your child/ren's days, the bond in your fees will reflect this.
Fees must be paid weekly. Failure to do so for two weeks and your children's place in care will be given to another family. If you are experiencing difficulties paying, please talk to the Child Care Coordinator or the Financial Adminstrator to organise a payment scheme. Fees are payable even when your child is absent. You will be informed of the fee structure when you enrol your child into our service. Please see your Parents Handbook for more information.
Fees are payable via EFTPOS at Reception (please note, before 9am and after 3pm, Reception is closed and carers may not be able to leave the children in order to process EFTPOS), or by cash. Please see Reception for more information.
