Brockman House Childcare has a 4 year old program designed specifically for kindergarten aged children to prepare them and help them find the skills they will need for pre primary the next year. Many parents find that keeping their 4 year olds in our Childcare is more convenient for them (no half days) and more enriching for their children.
The 4 year old program, also known as the “Kindy Program” helps give children an understanding of what they will be experiencing when they go to school/ pre-primary. Children are encouraged at this session to participate as individuals and as a member of the group, depending on what activity or experience has been programmed for.
Children, during this period, are developing their concentration spans, similar to what they will experience at school, by sitting at mat sessions, joining in in group discussions and following directions. This is the only structured part of the day where children are encouraged to participate.
The program is developed by programming for individual children, whilst giving the other children the opportunity to participate in these activities. The individual child who this is programmed for is observed and will have an evaluation written up for the parents/guardians to read and sent home. This hour also includes experiences planned if a parent has suggested an experience, either by writing it up on the parents evaluation chart or by filling out the parent involvement form.
Not all the experiences programmed arrive from observing an individual child, thay can also come from observing groups of children, and children are also encouraged to participate in the programming and give ideas on anything that they would like to do.
Children’s specific development, for example: their Cognitive (mathematical thinking, cause and effect, science), Language/Literacy, Dramatic Play, Motor skills (cutting, weaving) and also their Social and Emotional skills (confidence, participating in group discussions, developing friendships with peers) are fostered throughout the year during the 4 year old program. The children develop all these skills whilst having fun in a child led environment, where all children’s opinions and thoughts are valued and encouraged.
